How to Prepare to Sell Your Home
📦 Begin by Decluttering
- Tackle one room at a time to avoid getting overwhelmed.
- Include your closets — buyers will open them to assess storage.
- Pack up anything not absolutely necessary while you're still living there.
- Take down personal pictures, keepsakes, and collectibles. Buyers want to picture the home as theirs.
- Stack boxes neatly in a basement or garage, or remove them to a storage facility.
- Mark all boxes clearly with a permanent marker.
- Let the kids help — it gives them ownership of the process!
Safety Tip: If your children have their names displayed in their bedroom, remove them before listing.
💡 Assess the Lighting
- Remove unnecessary window coverings (while maintaining privacy).
- Clean windows inside and out.
- Replace yellowish bulbs with daylight or natural-light bulbs to brighten rooms for evening showings.
- Replace any burned-out bulbs.
